The symptoms of adult onset diabetes are at times somewhat vague because by themselves these signs could be caused by other conditions as well. But all together these symptoms usually point only in one direction. Diabetes can be characterized by an increase in water intake, resulting in an increase in urination as well. The body seems to be able to drain itself of excess sugars by using this method so this is a typical sign of the onset of diabetes. No matter how often you urinate however, you will not be able to rid yourself of all of the excess sugar and as time passes it will build up to extremely dangerous proportions.

A sudden weight loss when you are not dieting or doing any type of unusual exercise, or eating any differently than normal can also be a signal of diabetes. The body is not processing sugars properly and as a result, it is not processing any foods with all normalcy. This usually results in the patient feeling more hungry, or getting cravings at unusual hours. The body is not processing the food properly and as a result the patient is not getting proper nutrition.

The nervous system can also be affected by diabetes, thanks to the increase of sugars in the nerve fibers. The patient may feel numbness, tingling or 'pins and needles' in the extremities. As the disease progresses unchecked these symptoms may result in permanent nerve damage so it is crucial to get the condition under control as soon as possible. This nerve damage can affect the person's vision as well, so any sudden blurriness in the eyes should be looked at by a doctor immediately.
High Blood Pressure Can Cause Diabetes

High blood pressure is not usually a symptom of diabetes but it does seem to be able to cause it by damaging the body's cells, so keeping your blood pressure under control no matter your age is always a good idea. People with diabetes are highly susceptible to infections, excessive perspiring and vertigo sensations. All of these problems are a result of having too much unprocessed sugar in the body's cells.
