How Long Are Lamaze Classes?
-
What is Lamaze
-
Lamaze is a class for expecting women and their partners. There is a class called child birth class, but it should not be mistaken as Lamaze. Lamaze has only certified instructors that are highly trained to teach expecting couples. They have expertise and are capable of answering any questions or concerns that may arise. Anyone expecting a baby can take the class, whether expecting your first child or your fifth.
Signing up for Lamaze
-
You can sign up for Lamaze after you find out that you are expecting, but you should not take the class until you are ready to start your seventh month of pregnancy. It is recommended that all couples register for a Lamaze class about 6 to 8 weeks before they are ready to take it. So, by the fifth month of pregnancy think about adding the Lamaze sessions to your calendar. Contact your local Lamaze instructor to find out the future dates and times that the class is being offered.

Lamaze Sessions
-
Lamaze classes last 6 weeks, with one class held each week. Each of the six lessons is about one hour. You learn about breathing techniques for delivery, what happens in the labor room, what happens if you need a C-section, delivery options such as in water, and things you can do to help your labor progress. You also learn how to breast feed after the baby is born, how to handle and recognize postpartum depression, and how to talk with your partner about all of these changes. Most Lamaze instructors show a video of a female giving birth to let first time parents see what they can expect during labor and delivery.
