General Overview
-
Eyelash perming is a salon treatment that temporarily curls and plumps up the lashes. The treatment consists of applying a setting lotion, a perming solution, a nourishing agent and perming glue to achieve the desired effects. The result of the eyelash perming is a plumper, more dramatic look that lasts a lot longer than false eyelashes, traditional eyelash curling or mascara. The perming process is particularly preferred by women who do not have the time to apply eye makeup every day.
How It Works
-
The process involves treating the eyelashes with a special eyelash glue, then wrapping a small, spongey roller around the eyelashes to give them the curl. Finally, a perming solution is applied to the upturned lash and left to set for approximately 5 minutes. Professionally permed eyelashes will generally maintain their look anywhere from 1 to 4 months. More expensive solutions used at high-end salons typically last much longer than cheaper versions because of the type of solution used and the amount of care put into applying the perm.
Tips and Warnings
-
Due to its application in very close proximity to the eye area, eyelash perming can be dangerous. The perming solution used in the treatment has not been approved by the FDA. Thus, it has the potential to be harmful to the eye. The chemicals in the solution even have the potential to cause damage to the lashes by making them fall out sooner or inhibiting their growth. It is very important to have this treatment done by a trained professional with a cosmetology license in order to prevent any hazardous effects to the eye area.
