    The Wood Stove

  1. Wood stoves are some of the oldest stoves in the world. The first people to use stoves used wooden stoves. Old wood stoves were used as a combination stove and heater. In modern times, of course, there are many other kinds of ways to cook food so that it is no longer necessary to have a wood stove. However, there are many people who like the flavors and way that a wood stove cooks better than any other stove.
  2. How a Wood Stove Works

  3. A wood stove is a contained stove where the wood goes into the inside of the stove and is burned, which causes the upper surface of the stove to get hot. The wood stove is one of the original stoves, but they are still popular in some places today. Air keeps the fire going by the means of a damper. The damper is a small hole in the side of the stove that can be opened or closed by a latch. Usually a chimney goes out of the top of the house and lets the smoke from the wood out into the air.
  4. Why it Affects Food Taste

  5. Food cooked on a wood stove tastes differently than food cooked on a gas stove or on an electric stove. The main reason for this is because the taste of the wood leaches into the food while it is being cooked. The way that this happens is that when the wood is burned, it releases energy and particles of wood. When that air from the fire reaches the cooking food, it adds additional flavors to the food.
  6. Flavors of Wood

  7. There are many different flavors of wood used in cooking with wood stoves. Many people choose the type of wood to burn depending on the flavor that it will give to the food. The most notable food cooked in this way is barbecue meat. There are many different kinds of flavors that can be achieved only through the process of cooking with wood. The best kinds of wood to use for cooking are mesquite, oak, maple, pecan, hickory, cherry and apple.
  8. Wood Stove Cooking vs. Other Cooking

  9. Cooking on a wood stove is different than cooking with any other kind of stove. Cooking on a wood stove cooks less evenly than gas stoves, but similarly to an electric one. One advantage to using a wood stove is that as long as there is wood, the stove will work. Electric stoves do not work in a power outage, and gas stoves don't work when the gas lines are not working.
  10. The Science of Cooking

  11. Wood flavor affects the food's taste due to the science of cooking. When something gets heated, the molecules move faster. When the heat and energy is moved into the food, it starts to change the molecules in the food and cooks it. When the heat and energy come from wood, the flavor of the wood will work its way into the food during cooking.
