How Does a Spell Work?
-
Preparation
-
When preparing to cast a spell, you may choose a time and place for it to be cast. Some spells are better done at a certain time of the day or in a certain setting, such as outdoors. For example, a love spell may be done in the light of the moon. You may take a bath to cleanse yourself of any residual negative energies you're still carrying from the activities and stress of the day. You can dress in loose, comfortable clothing. This is a matter of personal preference.
The Tools
-
You will gather the tools that you will be using to cast your spell. These may include herbs, stones, candles, water, incense, oils or other items to lend the spell energy. For example, if performing a spell for money, you may want to use coins, a piece of green aventurine, a money symbol, green thread or yarn. You can follow an already written spell or use your imagination and create your own. The items may be cleansed and imbued with personal energy. Items may be purified in several ways such as cleansing with water or passing the items through the smoke of incense such as sage. Items are often imbued with personal power by holding the item in your dominant hand and focusing on the intention of the spell.
-
Casting a Circle
-
The items are then arranged on the altar or wherever you will be performing the spell. You may then cast a circle. This can be done by creating a physical circle on the floor, in the dirt if outdoors or even just by visualizing it in the mind. The circle is a sacred space surrounding you and the workings of your spell. The circle protects you from negative energies.
Performing the Spell
-
The ingredients are then used in whatever manner you have chosen for the purpose of your spell. For example, herbs may be buried, burned or scattered on the wind. Words may be spoken in the form of a rhyme because rhyming words help to impress your intention upon the subconscious mind. If you prefer, you may simply express your intention in a short statement.
What Makes it Work?
-
The reason why a spell works or does not work remains debatable. The basic premise is that spells work by focusing your mind on your stated intention. Your personal energy and the energy of the natural elements that you use in your spell help to focus your mind on the intended goal and manifest it in your reality. While no one can say with absolute certainty how a spell works, the possibility remains that the results depend on how strong the belief is in the mind of the one casting the spell.
