From Quick Guide: Mail Delivery 101

    Downloading Stamps.com Software

  1. Stamps.com offers a "postage on demand" service. Via proprietary software and a special postage scale, the site allows users to manage mailing and shipping without having to visit a post office. To set up a new account with Stamps.com, log on to http://www.stamps.com and click on the "Get Started" tab. Fill out all required fields, including personal information (name, address, user ID, company name and other information) to initiate new account setup. Complete final confirmation of payment. After processing, new users can download the Stamps.com software.
  2. Importing or Creating New Address or Address Book

  3. Import mailing addresses from Microsoft Outlook, QuickBooks or another application housing mailing addresses you'd like to use with Stamps.com. Create a new address book within the Stamps.com software by choosing the "Create New Address Book" option. You can also choose to input one individual address.
  4. Weighing Mail

  5. Use the Stamps.com electronic postage scale, included as a free gift when a new user signs up. The scale connects directly to your computer via a USB connection and integrates with Stamps.com software. Place the item to be mailed on the scale to accurately calculate the weight.
  6. Calculating and Printing Postage

  7. Calculate your postage using the Stamps.com software and the Stamps.com postage scale. Examine the estimated delivery time for all United States Postal Service (USPS) methods of shipment to determine the best fit. Choose from any USPS service, including Priority Mail and International Global Mail, which includes automated customs forms, certified mail and delivery confirmation. Print postage on standard paper or labels. Postage may also be printed directly onto a standard-size envelope.
  8. Sending Mail and Tracking Mailed Items

  9. Affix postage and prepare the item for mailing. Drop the item in a USPS collection box or give it to your mail carrier. Review a list of all printed postage items and use the "one-click package tracking" feature to easily research delivery information on anything sent via Stamps.com.
