    Size Matters

  1. The most obvious difference between a BMX bike and a mountain bike is the size. Most BMXes are considerably smaller. They are more designed for racing on small dirt tracks and for quicker maneuverability.
  2. Gears of Joy

  3. Other than very special models, BMX bikes don't have gears. There have been a handful crafted over the years that are two-speeds, but on average, they only have one gear. Mountain bikes, on the other hand, range in many gear patterns. They can be anywhere from 10 to 21 speeds, depending on the make and model.
  4. Making Weight

  5. Although they are both light for their respective size, mountain bikes are customarily heavier. This is obviously due to the fact that they are larger.
  6. Rubber Check

  7. The tires on a mountain bike are larger. This is in circumference and usually in width as well. They are also more heavy duty. They need to be more resistant to rough terrain, which is where they are most likely utilized.
  8. Shock Treatment

  9. One of the biggest differences in mountain bikes is the fact that most of them have shocks. This also lends handy to the durability factor of constant pounding that they go through on trails. Rocks, stumps, roots and divots are always prevalent on the trail, so the shocks do what they are designed for.
