From Quick Guide: Flattering Hairstyle Guide
  1. Getting the right haircut for your face shape can complement your look dramatically. When you get a haircut that does not suit your face, it can do the exact opposite and make you look heavier and not flatter your face.
  2. Observe your face and determine which face shape you are--heart, square, round-- in order to know which hairstyle will suit you the best. For a rounder face, a person should add height to the crown and volume on the top of the head, in order to look slimmer and taller. For a slimmer, longer face, a person needs to add volume to both sides of the head to give the illusion of a rounder face.
  3. A haircut can either break or make a person's look. If you don't correspond your hair with your face, then you will not complement your features and you will actually make your face look less flattering. When done correctly, hair can make a person look taller, skinnier, and make the person stand out more. To get the correct haircut for your face, determine your face shape and ask your hair stylists. There are also many websites where you can go to a "virtual salon" and actually get a "virtual make-over." You can scan in a picture of yourself and put on "virtual" hairstyles to see which cut looks best with your face shape. Please see below in the resource section for a helpful website.
