How Does a Super Bowl Party Differ From Other Sports Parties?

Super Bowl Shuffling
-
Championship events in sports attract big crowds and good parties, but nothing really beats a Super Bowl Party. There is just something magical and different about a Super Bowl party that sets it apart from any other championship. People who don't even like football will go to a Super Bowl party or even throw one! This article will answer the question of what makes a Super Bowl Party different from other sports parties.
The NFL Brand
-
Super Bowl parties are different because the National Football League (NFL) has a huge media market compared to other professional sports. Whenever the NFL season begins, you can see many "official sponsor of the NFL" logos on just about everything from beer cans to baby rattles.
Not only is there usually a large Super Bowl half-time show, there are other shows that take place on other networks specifically for half-time entertainment.
Only recently has the National Basketball Association (NBA) increased their profile to a global market, but the NFL is largely American and ingrained in American culture and tradition since the advent of the Super Bowl in the 1960s. Diehard NBA and Major League Baseball (MLB) fans are usually regional fans like in the New York area. NFL fans are everywhere. You'll hardly ever see an NBA or MLB championship advertised outside of participating team's cities, but the Super Bowl? You can't escape it after the new year begins! Almost every bar hosts a Super Bowl party with Super Bowl events and Super Bowl prices adorned with every official Super Bowl beverage and decoration. -
Timing Is Everything
-
Timing has a lot to do with Super Bowl parties as well.
The NFL schedule also helps Super Bowl parties differentiate from other parties. MLB has a best-of-seven game format for the championship and each game can last anywhere from two to five hours. The NBA has shorter games, but they are also in a best-of-seven series. Both leagues play those championship games during week days. How do you prepare for the championship party in the NBA or MLB when you can't really schedule it until after the third game?
The Super Bowl is the ultimate end-all, be-all of a grueling season and the championship takes place on a Sunday with two weeks between when the championship teams are set and when they play. This adds suspense and drama, making the Super Bowl an event and not just a championship game.
Super Bowl Party Attire and Menu
-
Since the Super Bowl is played in the winter, people are more likely to get together while the holiday spirit is still lingering in the air.
People will still grill hot food because the air is still crisp but not too cold. You can wear your thick NFL team jersey and feel perfectly comfortable.
Some people go beyond just wearing their favorite team's jersey during the Super Bowl. Expect face paint, car flags and even their pets to be dressed in Super Bowl team attire.
And how can you resist a party with grilled food? Who cares if it's 30 degrees and you have a hot stove? The grill is on during the Super Bowl.
And, It's not just grilled food. Expect to see Super Bowl cakes, most likely shaped as helmets adorned with food coloring representing the participating teams. High-protein finger foods are easy winners.
Think hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken wings,
chips, dips of all kinds and, of course, the kids won't complain about eating more pizza.
