How Does a Sachet Work?
-
The Sachet
-
A sachet is a very small pillow or bag filled with some material that has been perfumed or potpourri. The material used to make the pillow or bag is usually a cheesecloth or porous cotton that allows the scent to escape and fill the area. Some sachets are very fancy, made with satin material and lace and make great gifts. They also make wonderful gift wrapping decorations. They can be tied into the ribbon on the gift box to look and smell great.
Uses for Sachets
-
Most commonly sachets are used to hang in a closet or tucked in a drawer to make clothing smell nice. Some people like to hang them in their cars or tuck them away in their bathroom towel closets. School lockers are a great place to hang sachets, especially when sports equipment is kept in them and they can also be placed in the bottom of a gym bag. Use them in the dish towel drawer, or tuck one behind the cook books for a nice smelling kitchen. You can use sachets anywhere you want to freshen or bring a nice scent to.

Make You Own Sachets
-
You can buy sachets at almost any department store but if you make your own, you can have the scent you like the best. Just sew up three sides of the material, stuff and sew up the last side. You can fill them with your favorite potpourri, or use cotton balls with a few drops of essential oils on them for stuffing. For scents in the kitchen, try using vanilla or peppermint. Oil of lavender is great for clothes closets and drawers. Just find the scent that fits the area you want to freshen and have some fun being creative.
