From Quick Guide: Palm Reading 101

Is Your Fate in Your Hands?

  1. Depending on how far back in history you want to search, reading palms may be as old as 5,000 years or 3,000 years or so. Ancient India practiced the art, as did modern gypsies of Europe. Perhaps the most famous palm reader was a man who named himself Cheiro, after the Greek word for palmistry, cheiromancy. He read the hands of many famous persons of long ago, including author Mark Twain and actress Sarah Bernhardt, and is considered the father of modern palmistry.
  2. Read Between the Lines

  3. If you want to read palms, it can be an interesting study of people and their inner natures. You will find the persons who refuse to let you look at their hands are often the ones whose palms show a secretive nature. The exact correlation for someone between his palm, hand shape and lines to personality has never been proven conclusively. However, one point that argues for some validity to the study is that nurses look at the hands of a newborn baby for the middle line across the palm, known as the head line. A significant proportion of babies born without a head line are found to have Down Syndrome.

Start your study of the subject by using your own hands for comparison. The hand with which you write is considered the dominant hand and is said to reflect your life at present. The other hand is said to represent your past. Lines may be shallow or carved deeply into the palm, chained and broken-looking or one thick mark. The line closest to the base of your fingers is the heart line. Supposedly any short lines beneath the base of your little finger indicate how many marriages or significant love affairs will occur in your life. If your heart line is clear and broad, you have a firm grip on your emotions and pursue the one you love. If it is wavering or made of many tiny lines, your heart can be easily crushed and you may be led astray by those you love.
  4. Directions of Lines and Life As Well

  5. The next line, in the middle, is your head line. If it swings down toward your wrist at the outer edge of your palm, you have a very creative nature. If it goes straight across your palm, you are a clear thinker and act decisively. If it curves upward as it nears the edge of your palm, your mind may be more on spiritual matters. Finally, the line that follows the base of the thumb is your life line. If it continues onto your wrist, you are said to be slated for a very long life. If it appears to be straighter and less curved, you have an adventurous nature and life ahead of you.

You can delve as deeply into this subject as you wish; there are many books and Internet sites available, and people are nearly always willing to let you look at their palms.
