How Does Light Affect Plant Growth?
-
-
Just as we are happier and healthier when we receive adequate sunlight, so are the plants and vegetation that we grow. Sunlight, or other means of artificial lighting is essential to help a plant grow into maturity. It is also necessary in aiding the plant to get the nutrients it requires to mature into a strong healthy plant.
-
The process of the sun or other light helping to feed the plant is called photosynthesis. The light acts as an energy source to help the plant separate carbohydrates from carbondioxide. Moisture mixes with this and turns into a glucose and feeds the plant. The plant in turn releases oxygen into the air to make the air we breath cleaner.
-
The amount of light the plant receives will drastically affect it's growth cycle, as it is being deprived of the ingredients necessary to feed itself.
Some plants have a healthier appetite and require more light than others, to continue to grow and stay healthy.

Some plants even require a varied period of shade or darkness in order to finish their development. Plants that fall into this category are flowering plants. They require a length of darkness for their blooms to develop into large spectacular visions. Luckily, most plants and shrubs that we buy today come with labels that tell us the best growing conditions and amount of light they require.
-
Having a better understanding about how lighting affects plant growth helps us as we make decisions about where to arrange the various plants and vegetation we buy for our homes. The right light is instrumental in how the plant will grow and produce, so be sure to read the guidelines and recommendations that come with the plant.
