Anemia is a condition that may refer to reduction of erythrocytes (red blood cells--RBC) in the blood or depletion of hemoglobin content of red blood cells. Erythrocytes are disc-shape cells produced by the bone marrow and function oxygen carriers. Hemoglobin also carries oxygen from the lungs to different parts of the body and is responsible for the blood's red pigmentation. In anemia the depletion of erythrocytes (RBC) or hemoglobin leads to symptoms including generalized fatigue, shortness of breath and chest pain, headache and dizziness, skin pallor and coldness of hands and feet.
