April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. During this month we are reminded to think about the issue of child abuse and what we can do to help. But child abuse is not a subject that can be ignored the rest of the year. To help prevent it we have to be vigilant and willing to step up and take action, no matter when, or where.
Abuse can be a difficult subject to discuss with others, so when a friend confides in you about the abuse in her life it's often difficult to know how to handle the situation. Abuse is a serious matter and your friend needs help right away; as a friend you can provide much needed emotional support while she seeks help.
