Spray guns are a fast and convenient way to spray a finish over a surface. If spray guns aren’t cleaned on a regular basis, the finish can accumulate in the gun, forming a layer of gunk that can make the gun inoperable. Gun owners have long been noted for their willingness to do basic maintenance and cleaning of their firearms by themselves. In the early 1990s the recipe for a new, homemade gun cleaning mixture began making the rounds of gun shows and ranges. Knows as Ed's Red, after the developer Ed Harris, it became an alternative to commercially produced gun cleaners.
Most stores where guns are sold will have gun cleaner available as well. But, if you want to produce your own homemade gun cleaner, it is possible. Homemade versions of gun cleaner often work just as well as the store-bought kind. If you are an avid shooter and go through a lot of gun cleaner, it may benefit you to make your own.
