Bridesmaids and groomsmen are special guests, usually close friends and relatives, selected by the bride and groom to assist them in marriage and pre-marriage duties. Events and obligations are similar but vary between the two; however the primary customary obligation of a well-mannered bridesmaid or groomsman is to offer moral and emotional support for the bride or groom, who may be experiencing some nerves leading up to the ceremony.
