Nuuk is the capital city of Greenland, located in the southwest corner of the island. It is home to nearly one-quarter of the entire population (which still makes it a small town, since the total population of Greenland is only about 60,000 people!). The city was founded in 1721 when Norwegian Lutheran missionary Hans Egede set up the community as a year-round trading post. Today, it is a vibrant city with surprisingly modern architecture, cold temperatures year round and lots of outdoor activities.
