The police department in Heidelberg, called the Polizeidirektion, is the largest police department in Land Baden-Wurttemberg and has over 1,000 employees. If you need to visit the police department for any reason, you can reach it by car, tram or S-bahn (suburban metro railways). The German public transportation system is very easy to use and you should be able to navigate it even if you cannot speak a word of German. If you have an emergency, though, do not hesitate to call the police and ask them to come to you.

The power of this river is seen today in the size of the cities in the valley and in the many castles and fortified homes scattered along its banks.
