Heels to Wear With an Orange Dress

Depending upon the shade and silhouette, an orange dress can be worn virtually all year round; but a casual cotton frock and a dressy satin sheath demand decidedly different footwear. Options range from sleek, to chunky and bright, to neutral. Consider both the style of your dress and the intended occasion, and you’re sure to land on firmly on your feet.

Sleek and Nude

For orange dresses that are bold and bright, a neutral shoe is a good option to make sure the focus stays on the dress. Choose a flesh toned pointed toe pump for the most streamlined look -- depending on your coloring, you might select a cream, taupe, nude or dark-beige shoe. A skin colored heel will extend your leg line and not compete with the bold nature of the dress. Or, perhaps the season and occasion calls for an open toe style - for example an open-toe high stiletto heel with an orange frock for a sassy summer look. Finish the ensemble with a chic leopard-print handbag and gold jewelry.

Bold Meets Bold

If you want to make a statement with your footwear in addition to your dress, a pop of vibrant color is an unexpected way to add interest to your outfit. Choose a bright pump or heeled sandal in a vivid shade like purple, turquoise or cobalt -- blues are especially flattering with orange, as the two hues are color-wheel opposites. Carry through the color-block theme with a statement necklace, cuff bracelet or handbag in the same vivid shade as your heels.

Casual Contenders

Casual orange dresses team well with chunky-heel styles like wedges and boots in brown or cognac colors. For instance, an orange jersey wrap dress looks appropriately downtown chic with a pair of brown knee-high boots, while a fitted cotton body con dress is stylish with high cognac wedges. Wear an armful of metallic bangles or work in earthy accessories -- think a neutral, natural stone necklace and a dark-brown leather tote. (ref 3)

Sophisticated, Shiny, Strappy

A fancy orange cocktail dress calls for luxe footwear. To go with classy black shoes with your orange dress may be too harsh of a color combination reminiscent of Halloween, so opt for metallics. Based on your skin tone and personal preference, you may go with cool silver and graphite tones, or gold and rose gold options. A strappy sandal with crystal embellishments provides an added dose of glam. For example, rock an orange silk sheath with rose gold heels or brushed gold rhinestoned sandals. Add sparkling chandelier earrings, and carry a metallic clutch or a taupe patent leather handbag to complete the sophisticated look.
