Wall Flower Quilt Hanger Project
A wall quilt hanger is designed to display quilts on the wall. Quilt hangers can also be used to display weavings, rugs and other large pieces of textile art. Quilt hangers can be made with decorative motifs.

Wire Hanger
-
Quilt hangers can be made from a long narrow loop of wire. A break in the bottom of the loop allows it to be inserted into a hanging sleeve -- a tube of fabric sewn to the back of the quilt. For small quilts, it may be possible to bend a coat hanger into the right shape. For larger quilts, you can make a hanger out of heavy-gauge wire. Make flower outlines using flexible copper wire or heavy-gauge craft wire, then secure along the top of the hanger.
Wooden Hanger
-
Make a quilt hanger out of two lengths of wood that clamp together using screws at both ends. Add a flower motif using artificial flowers glued into holes drilled in the wood. Alternatively, flower shapes can be cut from thin sheets of wood or foamcore, painted or varnished and attached to the top of the hanger using doweling "stems."

Considerations
-
The hanger must be large enough to hold the quilt without bunching it at the top. Wire hangers should be given a protective coating of lacquer or covered with tape so that they don't discolor the quilt; this is especially important in damp climates where the wire may corrode. Don't make wooden hangers too tight, as too much pressure could harm the quilt. Hang quilts out of direct sunlight to avoid fading.
