Engines

The MTD Gold riding mower line uses 20, 22 or 23 HP Kohler engines, while the Yard-Man riding mower product line features Briggs & Stratton engines with 12.5, 17.5, 18.5 or 19.5 HP. Bolens riding mowers contain 13.5 HP Briggs & Stratton engines. Yard Machines riding lawn mower models feature 12.5, 13.5 or 14.5 HP Briggs & Stratton engines.

Deck Sizes

MTD Gold riding mowers feature decks ranging from 42 to 50 inches in width, while Yard-Man riding lawn mowers have 38, 42 or 46-inch decks. Bolens riding mowers feature 38-inch decks, and Yard Machines riding lawn mowers have either 38 or 42-inch decks.

Fuel Tanks

MTD Gold riding mowers have fuel storage capacities ranging from 1.36 to 3 gallons, and Yard Machines riding mowers have 1.36-gallon fuel tanks. Both Yard-Man and Bolens riding mowers hold either 1.36 or 1.5 gallons of gas.

MTD Gold riding lawn mowers range in price from $1,200 to $1,600, and Yard-Man riding mowers range in price from $878 to $1,200, as of May 2011. You can purchase a Bolens riding mower for $900 to $1,000, as of May 2011. Yard Machines riding mowers cost between $900 and $1,000, also as of May 2011.
