A lawn mower makes grass cutting a snap.

The next time you're about to cut your grass, give thanks to Edwin Budding for inventing the first lawn mower. Instead of cutting grass with a scythe or clippers, an electric or gas lawn mower is now an option. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Types

    • Electric lawn mowers are available in two types: corded and cordless. Corded electric mowers work when plugged into an outlet, and cordless electric mowers are powered by a rechargeable battery. Gas lawn mowers come in push and self-propelled models.

    Considerations

    • Electric lawn mowers are more environmentally friendly than gas lawn mowers; however, gas lawn mowers have more powerful engines. Gas lawn mowers produce emissions that enter the atmosphere as pollution. Gas lawn mowers produce noise that can harm your ears, as opposed to electric lawn mowers that offer quiet operation.

    Warning

    • Safety measures are mandatory when using a gas-powered lawn mower. Never refill the mower while smoking or when the mower is turned on. Store the mower away from open flame, pilot light or any appliance or item that might make a spark.
