Do Mod Chips Work on Carb Vehicles?
Most modern cars made after 1980 use computer-controlled fuel-injected engines, rather than mechanical carburetor-assisted engines. Newer vehicle technology allows engine parameter adjustments through modification chips; however, these chips are not normally used for carburetor engines.

Function
-
A modification, or performance, chip attaches to the engine's on board computer through the diagnostics wiring harness.
Features
-
Carburetors have mechanical adjustments available on their housing assembly for performance enhancement. Since a modification chip works with a computer-based controller, a carburetor cannot be adjusted with a chip.
-
Considerations
-
Alternative devices may be used to make power adjustments to carburetor vehicles. A module, such as a voltage adjuster, may be connected to a car's battery to divert small amounts of electricity to other components.
