-
Galvalume produces aluminum-zinc alloy mixtures of sheet metal. Unpainted Galvalume metal roofing is actually coated in a transparent acrylic for protection of the underlying metal.
Significance
-
The Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA, encourages high roofing reflectivity through the Energy Star requirements. These requirements enforce energy efficiency standards. In order to qualify for Energy Star approval as a low slope roof product, the product must have an initial reflectance of 0.65 or higher; to qualify as a steep slope roof product, the product must have an initial reflectance of 0.25 or higher. Unpainted Galvalume roofing qualifies for both low and steep slope roofing Energy Star requirements.

Considerations
-
