Bathing is not always a simple task.

Function

A bathtub transfer bench makes bathing safe and comfortable for elderly or handicapped people, or for anyone who has trouble taking a bath. One half of the bench sits inside the tub, and the other half stays outside the tub. The user sits on the part of the bench that's outside the tub and then slides across to the inside of the tub.

Types

Bathtub transfer benches are available in a variety of styles. Some of the benches have arm and back rests, and seats that swivel or slide to assist movement. Advanced models have a mechanism that lowers the user into the bathtub and then raises her when she's done bathing.

Warning

Transfer benches are designed to hold a certain amount of weight. An obese person might need a bariatric bench, which is designed to hold more weight than a traditional transfer bench. Make sure to check the weight requirements when purchasing a transfer bench for your bathtub.
