How They Work

The photosynthesis of weeds is disrupted by phenylurea herbicides. Phenylurea herbicides work by inhibiting the process of photosynthesis in weeds. They are applied at the soil level and absorbed through the roots. From there, they translocate into the foliage and kill the weeds.
Concerns

Toxicity to birds and aquatic species are a concern with phenylurea herbicides. There is some concern with their use. While they have not been found to be toxic to humans, they are highly toxic to many aquatic species. Some toxicity has been found in wild birds as well.
