Old analog televisions are being phased out in the U.S.

Digital television transition, the process of switching from analog televisions transmission to digital was completed in June in 2009. If you still own an analog TV and are not connected to a cable service, you need a digital-to-analog converter in order to watch over-the-air digital broadcasts.

  1. Reception Problem

    • An analog television, which is not connected to a cable service runs the risk of receiving poor reception. DTV.gov states that DTV reception may be affected by trees, buildings and inclement weather. One of the primary reasons for this is the poor antenna reception often associated with older analog televisions.

    TV Booster

    • DTV.gov reports that consumers should consider installing a TV signal booster, which should improve signal strength and reception of their converter-connected analog TV. Unlike a traditional antenna, a TV antenna booster has a much wider range, which is able to capture and amplify the signal. It may significantly improve the picture and sound of your current signal.

    Warning

    • A TV booster cannot give you a signal if you do not already possess one. An antenna booster works by strengthening an existing signal; it does not establish one. Additionally, a booster might not drastically improve your television if your area has poor signal reception.
