35 mm Sensors Vs. Full Sensors
In the past, cameras were built around size film they used, 35 mm. With the advent of the digital camera, camera or sensor size can vary greatly, such as 35 mm or full frame.
-
Function
-
Camera sensors use digital imaging to produce a picture. The sensor size tells the consumer how much space, or frame, a camera will pick up on a typical picture. The larger the frame size, the better quality the image becomes.
Features
-
Confusion arises between 35 mm and full frame sensors. Full frame sensors mimic the original size of older 35 mm film, but have the true dimensions of 24 mm by 36 mm. In contrast, 35 mm sensors are just 1 mm smaller than the full frame sensors.
-
Considerations
-
Many marketers use the full frame and 35 mm sensors interchangeably. Though there is a small difference, to a true photographer, the difference is noticeable through image quality.
