There are many strategies for lifting a heavy boiler.

Boiler drums are used in industrial factories for the production of steam to power machinery. At times, these boiler drums need to be lifted for maintenance or movement to another installation, requiring strategic lifting methods.

  1. Identification

    • Boiler drums are large, cylindrical hollow bodies that house water and steam concentrations. Their weight can vary from differing application needs, typically between 100 tons and 250 tons.

    Winches

    • A typical way to lift a boiler drum is by a drum winch. A drum winch is a cable attached to a drum machine that rotates when activated. The cable pulls the load upward as the cable's slack is spun onto the drum.

    Jacks

    • Newer technology is providing alternative lifting methods, such as the strand jack. A strand jack uses collets, or collars, that grab the strands of wire as the load pulls down on the assembly. This provides a basic hand-over-hand pulling of the cable to lift the boiler drum.
