What Is on the C Band G1 Satellite?

A G1 satellite is a geostationary satellite that provides mobile satellite services across a region of the world. C band was the first type of satellite communication service offered in North America for direct to home satellite television services.

  1. Transponders

    • G1 satellites include transponders for uploading and downloading communications data, including television, data and voice services. Along with C band transponders G1 satellites carry transponders for other communications frequencies including the Ku band and Ka band.

    Services

    • C band services available on G1 satellites include direct to home television services for areas of North America, including Canada. The Anik G1 satellite to be launched in 2012 will carry government communications services for the Americas and Pacific regions.

    C Band

    • As the first type of satellite communications used in North America, C band communications require the use of large satellite receivers between 3 feet and 9 feet in diameter. G1 satellites are located at a certain longitude in the sky to allow dishes to be directed at the satellite to receive and send information.
