A submersible pump is a device that is placed within the well underneath the water. It effectively pushes water up the well's piping to an above ground storage tank for use and consumption.

A 220-volt submersible pump is a heavy-duty pump that can pump approximately 200 gallons per minute, depending on the model. It functions by using multiple spinning impellers inside it to move water through its diffusers. This results in a pushing effect, allowing the water to travel upward.

Considerations

Keep in mind that since a 220-volt submersible pump must be placed near the bottom of a well, servicing the unit is a considerable chore that requires a hired professional. Luckily, submersible pumps are extremely reliable, lasting as much as 20 or 25 years without major servicing.
