There are three types of squash -- constricted neck, zucchini types and winter squash. Zucchini types are summer squash. Of this type of squash, patty pan is the smallest bush type. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Description

    • Patty pan is a dwarf type of zucchini squash. It is notable for its small size, growing to no more than 2 1/2 to 4 inches in diameter, and is round, shallow and saucer-shaped. Patty pan squash has scalloped edges and is best when harvested while the fruits are immature and still have soft skins.

    Growing

    • Most patty pan squashes have an open vining habit. They rarely grow more than 3 feet tall. Plant in full sun and provide regular, deep watering. Patty pan matures in 45 to 55 days.

    Varieties

    • Patty pan squash is yellow, green or white. Varieties include Early Green Tint Scallop, Early White Bush Scallop, White Patty Pan, Yellow Bush Scallop, Peter Pan, Scallopini and Sunny Delight.
