Corn gluten meal is identified as a highly effective organic fertilizer that contains 9 to 10 percent nitrogen. The product is also popular as a pre-emergence weed management strategy and is totally safe for use around humans, pets and desired plants. Corn gluten meal is safe enough to warrant its use as a cat food component.

The product is obtained from the processing of corn into corn starch and corn syrup. Given the high nutritional value of corn gluten meal, the product is used extensively as a source of supplementary protein in livestock feeds.

Use Recommendations

To apply corn gluten meal, use 20 lbs. for every 1,000 square feet. The method of application is the same as any other lawn fertilizer. Store product in a dry place and avoid getting wet.
