Where Is the Oil Pump in a 97 Pontiac Trans Sport?

You must remove the oil pan to access your Trans Sport oil pump.

Locating and replacing the oil pump in your 1997, 3.4-liter Pontiac Trans Sport is a simple task. Because of the oil pump's location, you will need to raise the vehicle with ramps or jack stands to locate and access the unit.

Pump Location

The oil pump in your Trans Sport is located on the underside of the engine block, toward the front. You will need to drain the oil and remove the oil pan in order to locate and access the pump because the unit is concealed behind the pan. The oil pump is mounted to the engine block by an oil pump bolt.

Torque Specifications

To mount your new oil pump, tighten the oil pump retaining bolt to 30 pound-feet of torque. You can purchase a torque wrench to ensure that you tighten the bolt properly.

Oil Capacity

Once you have installed the oil pump and re-sealed the oil pan, refill the engine with oil. Your 1997 Pontiac Trans Sport holds 4.5 quarts of oil.
