Traditional Timber Framing
-
Traditional timber framing is a common beam-and-post construction technique whereby pegged mortise and tenon joints connect the vertical posts and horizontal beams of frames together. Diagonal members brace the frame.
Scribing
-
Sometimes beams and posts are labeled with a technique called scribing. Scribing is when each timber is numbered in such a way that it is used in one specific place in the building framing. This allows builders to construct the structure much like playing connect the dots.

Plastering
-
To make the structure a shelter and not just a skeleton of a building, the walls of beam-and-post structures are plastered and finished with wattle and daub. On many of these structures, the beams are still visible on the inside and outside.
