When choosing a cook top for your kitchen, there are several options to consider. One of the most important options is whether to get an electric range that uses halogen bulbs or radiant coils as a heat source.

Radiant Heat

  • On electric ovens, the radiant components are commonly located beneath a sheet of ceramic glass. The radiant components contain conducting elements that heat quickly and evenly cook foods. Mid- to high-range electric ovens usually have radiant components and they commonly cost a little more because of this.

Halogen Heat

  • Halogen properties in electric ranges are commonly more efficient than conventional electric coil elements. Halogen lights are used beneath a ceramic surface that heats up quickly. Be mindful that halogen elements mean you can cook only with iron or steel cookware.

Differences

  • Electric range ovens that use halogen as a heat source tend to cost more but are easier to clean up. Radiant ranges may have more expandable elements. On a radiant range, you can use aluminum cookware, which you cannot on a halogen.
