Installation Guide to Install an Oil Filter on a Shovelhead

Shovelheads are a type of motorcycle engine manufactured by Ultima Motor Works. There is a range of factors to consider when installing an oil filter in your Shovelhead engine.

Mounting Bolts

All Shovelhead engines require oil filters. They prolong engine life and increase performance. The mounting bolts for these devices are found on the right side of the engine case. They are designed to accept 92/99 FXST-style filter mounts.

Oil Lines

When installing an oil filter, always ensure that the outside oil line goes to the cooler and back to the tank. Ensure that the inside line leads from the oil pump and returns to the oil pump.

Installation

Once the lines are in place and the proper filter mounts have been purchased, the oil filter may be easily mounted onto the bolts using a wrench.
