Homemade Enclosed Trailer

With enough time and the right materials, you can build your own enclosed trailer.

Enclosed trailers can be expensive new and hard to find used. But there is a third option -- make one yourself. With ingenuity, time and materials, you can build a trailer unique to your needs.

Materials

A utility trailer will form the base of your homemade trailer, so find one that is as wide and as long as you would like your finished trailer to be. Plywood sheets braced by two-by-fours are needed for the enclosure. Enough sturdy plastic material to cover the outside surface area of the trailer can be used to waterproof the trailer. You will also need access to a variety of tools to complete the project.

Process

Build the enclosure and secure it to the utility trailer. At the back of the trailer, fashion a door using hinges and a lock. Secure plastic to all of the surfaces to waterproof the trailer.

Cost

This type of trailer can be built for less than $600. The price includes only materials, not the investment of time required.
