Flowers need light to grow.

Flowers act as the reproductive structure of plants, producing pollen and seeds that help create the next generation of flowers. Healthy flowers need the right amount and kind of light to continue growing. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Natural Light

    • Sunlight provides light from a spectrum that plants have evolved to use in the photosynthesis of nutrients. Flowers use sunlight to create energy, and transport food and water. Direct natural light is necessary for the growth of plants, like flowers.

    Artificial Light

    • Artificial grow lamps are used for flowers and other plants grown indoors. Grow lamps provide light from the same spectrum of light as the sun, although the light is weaker and not as effective. Using grow lights for indoor plants keeps them healthy and growing.

    Combination

    • Indoor flowers benefit from a combination of natural and artificial light. Natural light is weakest during the winter, when days are shorter, so during winter, indoor gardens benefit the most from the use of artificial grow lights. Flowers placed near windows receive the most effective natural light. Placing lamps near the flowers helps provide them with light when natural light is not available.
