Problems With Cadillac Seville Theft Security

A bad key transponder can cause problems with the Cadillac Seville theft security system.

Introduced in the 1950s, the Cadillac Seville is a luxury automobile manufactured by General Motors. Cadillac Sevilles equipped with theft security systems can develop problems with these systems that can result in difficulty starting the engine. Fortunately, these problems can often be resolved through troubleshooting.

Sensor

The Cadillac Seville contains an anti-theft sensor that reads signals transmitted from the transponder contained in a Seville-certified key. A worn or bad sensor can misinterpret or not pick up on the signal, resulting in starting problems. Inspect the anti-theft sensor for wear or electrical damage, as well as for any loose, corroded or broken connections, and make the necessary adjustments or replacements.

Security Light

If the security light in your Cadillac Seville remains illuminated, it may be due to an instrument panel cluster wiring fault. Remove your panel cluster, check for broken, loose or corroded wire connections that could cause a short circuit and replace them as needed.

Transponder

A faulty transponder in your Cadillac Seville key may not properly transmit a signal to the Seville's computer, causing the computer to assume a theft is in progress and thus activating the theft security system. Insert your certified spare key into the ignition and start the Seville. If the engine activates, take your other key to a GM dealer for replacement.
