Scoring Tools to Remove Wallpaper
Removing wallpaper can be a laborious process, but techniques have been established to make this project easier. Among them is the use of scoring tools. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Purpose
-
Scoring tools create tiny holes in the surface of wallpaper. Once the wallpaper has holes, any chemical strippers or steam applied to the surface go through the holes and soften the adhesive that binds wallpaper to drywall.
Use
-
Scoring tools are wheeled over the surface of wallpaper in a circular motion. Users should not apply a great deal of pressure to the scoring tool, but rather let the tool do the work. For best results, go over the entire wall.
-
Risks
-
In some cases, scoring tools may damage the drywall beneath the wallpaper. Scoring tools are more forgiving of plaster walls, and may not damage drywall as long as little pressure is applied.
