Can You Mount an RV Toilet in a Bus Bathroom?

RV toilets work similarly to bus toilets.

RV toilets run on very little water and are designed to be placed on vehicles for use while camping or traveling the country. Bus toilets work similarly and are very much like those in RVs. In fact, the two can be swapped easily, with a bus supporting an RV toilet and vice versa.

Internal Cassette

An internal cassette toilet has three parts: a toilet that flushes, a water tank and an outer tank to hold the waste. The outer tank is accessible from the outside of the vehicle. The water tank needs to be refilled when it is empty, and is reached by a small door that is also on the outside. This type of tank will work in both buses and RVs.

Portable Toilet

A Porta Potti, or other portable toilet, is not as refined as an internal cassette toilet. It has a water tank and a waste storage tank, but can be stored anywhere on the vehicle and is not permanently mounted in place. A Porta Potti can be removed from the vehicle and placed at an outdoor campsite.

Fun Fact

The first RV toilet was based on a style used by miners. Toilets were attached to mining cars so miners didn't have to go above ground each time nature called. The style was adapted by early the designers of early RVs.
