A leaking brake line can cause braking problems.

The 1996 Chevy Suburban 1500 is a light-duty truck pickup truck manufactured by General Motors.

  1. Brake Lock

    • The 1996 Chevy 1500 can experience brake lock, or brakes that compress and fail to release the rotor due to pressure loss. Check the brake line and brake piston for damage or leaks and replace them as needed. Inspect the master cylinder also for any leakage around the shaft seals and replace the seals if worn.

    Pulsating Brakes

    • The brake pedal can pulsate due to brake rotor warping. Check the rotor for an uneven surface. If the rotor surface is uneven by more than .003 inches, insert tapered shims between the Chevy 1500 hub and rotor to correct the problem.

    Scraping Noises

    • Scraping noises emanating from the brakes can result when the friction material on the disc brake pads wear down, causing the steel backing of the pads to come into contact with the rotor. Inspect the brake pads. If the friction material is worn down or worn off, replace the pads. Check the rotors for damage and resurface or replace them as needed.
