Why Does Xerox Scan to the Doc.xsm Folder?

Xerox devices provide printing, fax and scanning solutions for both the home and office. The Xerox scans to the "Doc.xsm" folder because that is the destination folder set for your device.

Function

The Xerox scanner uses optical character recognition to take the image on the scanning glass and transfer it to digital format. It then stores the created image on your computer's hard drive.

Doc.xsm

The default name of the folder is "NETSCAN.XSM," so someone changed the settings for the device sometime after the installation. Destination folders act as a receptacle for the hardware device to store the information quickly on your computer.

Considerations

The .XSM on the folder name is given to folders created for your Xerox scanner. The special folder format allows it to be seamlessly integrated into other software programs.
