Magellan Sportrak Map Tutorial

Magellan designed the SporTrack Map GPS unit to help guide hikers. The unit can be an invaluable tool, especially for those traveling in unfamiliar wilderness areas. Use the SporTrack to view your location, set waypoints and more.

Initial Setup

Turn on the unit by pressing "PWR" then "ENTER." Select your general whereabouts when prompted by the pop-up menus. First select a region, then the state or province.

Navigation Menus

The SporTrak has seven basic menus. You can toggle through them by pressing the "NAV" selection button. The menus are "Map," "Compass," "Large Data," "Position," "Road" and "Satellite." There are two "Position" menus.

Save Waypoint

You can save waypoints to mark important locations or future destinations, such as trail heads or end points. Push "MENU," then select "Mark" from the screen. Push "ENTER" to store the waypoint.

Go to Waypoint

Your SporTrack can automatically guide you to your waypoints. Push the "GOTO" button, then choose "Near" position or "Alphabetical." The unit displays the stored waypoints. Select a waypoint from the resulting menu.

Create a Track

You can record the progress of your trip by creating a track. Go to the "Map" menu, choose "Map Setup," select "Display," then "Track Lines." Turn the "Track Lines" to "On." The SporTrack adds dots on the map as you travel.
