Condensation Pump Annual Maintenance

Cooling and heating a home requires many components working together, including a condensation pump. This element within a HVAC system should have a yearly maintenance schedule to prevent any unexpected breakdowns.

Identification

A condensation pump moves water that is produced by an evaporator coil or furnace to the necessary drainage receptacle. It is normally enclosed with the inside evaporator unit of a Heating Ventilation and Air-Conditioning system.

Features

An annual inspection of the condensation pump can prevent costly repairs. Every year, the pump should be visually checked for any cracks or overflow from its housing assembly. The interior should be discharged and inspected for any blockages that accumulate over time.

Considerations

If a visible leak or overflow of the condensation pump exists, the system should be checked immediately. An overlooked leak can lead to large-scale damage from water exposure, as well as mold infiltration. It is recommended to have a professional brought in to verify the extent of damage, if applicable.
