Taurus X CD Problems

The Ford Taurus X is a crossover sport utility vehicle (SUV) with a six-disc CD changer and MP3 capability. There are several factors that can cause problems with the CD player, such as taking the vehicle off road, dust or moisture.

  1. CD Player Skips

    • The most common errors on the Taurus X are when the CD player skips. This is caused by dirt or moisture in the CD player. If this happens, it may be time to clean your CD player using a CD cleaning disc. These can be purchased at any electronics store.

    CD Errors

    • If your CD Player is displaying, "Error" or "Bad Disc," when you try to play a CD or will not accept a CD, there may be several reasons. The CD player is designed to play commercially pressed, 4.75-inch, audio compact discs only, so re-recordable discs or mixes you make using CD-R or CD-RW discs may not work and cause the error message to appear. If you want to burn your own discs, Ford recommends burning MP3 files onto CD-R discs and structuring the discs with only one level of folders for tracks to help the CD player navigate the disc files.

    Power or Audio Problems

    • If the CD system does not power on, or if it appears to be on but you cannot hear the audio, then the wires may have come loose. To check, use a screwdriver to remove the panel protecting the CD player. Then, remove the CD player from the dash and make sure the wires are all connected. If they are, you may need to replace your CD player. Have an auto shop double check before purchasing a new system.
