What Types of Welders Can Be Used as Generators? thumbnail
Generator welders come in three main types.

Welding jobs can be tough enough without getting caught up in a tangle of power cords. For welding projects in the field, a welder generator source does the trick. These welding units have an engine built in and come in several different types. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Power Sources

    • From arc welders to metal inert gas welders, there are a wide array of welders for a wider array of welding jobs. All types of welders come in generator welder models with power sources built in. But generator welders come in three specific makes: diesel powered, gas powered and liquid propane gas powered.

    Characteristics

    • While gas-powered generator welders are standard, diesel ones have the best fuel economy and are less likely to light if exposed to sparks. However, liquid propane gas-powered generator welders are the safest; though they are not as common as the other two, they produce no emissions.

    Other Considerations

    • When a handyman has chosen the type of generator welder he wishes to use, he must also consider the type of job for which he needs to use it. If the job takes place in an area that does not allow gas or diesel emissions, a liquid propane gas generator welder is necessary. When working near a refinery, often a diesel generator welder is required.
