iTrip Problems

The iTrip, an FM-transmitter for iPod MP3 players, was introduced in 2005 by Griffin Technology. CNet reports that the iTrip allows users to easily transmit music in their vehicle with decent performance. Although easy to use, they can be expensive and multiple iTrip models suffer signal interference.

  1. iTrip LCD

    • Introduced in 2005, the iTrip LCD is the first FM-transmitter device with a clear display and an affordable price. Despite its affordability, Macworld contends that the iTrip LCD experiences interference and sub-par stereo signal in LX mode. Additionally, the device does not match up against competitors like the PodFreq.

    iTrip with SmartScan

    • iLounge, which is an iPod news and reviews site, reports that the iTrip with SmartScan, introduced in January 2008, suffers from sound quality problems including "low base level static." Although an update of the 2007 model, iLounge contends that the $80 price is high in relation to what the device offers.

    iTrip AutoPilot

    • Introduced in June 2008, the iTrip AutoPilot is an updated version of the SmartScan. iLounge reports that although the AutoPilot is more expensive than its competitors at $100, it does not have superior sound. Despite the high price, it experiences sound interference and iLounge argues that the device's updated controls "do not add much" compared to past models.
