Rheometer Calibration Procedures

A rheometer is a device that measures the properties of a given material as it changes form. The information provided by a rheometer helps scientists gauge reaction of a material under different pressures and temperatures, and maintaining calibration of a rheometer is essential for the best readings.

  1. Program

    • Select "Single Run" from the menu. Enter "viscosity" as the measurement system. Set the input mode, ID and steps, then select "Okay" and "Start."

    Calibration

    • Observe the viscosity measurement, confirming it is within the calibration standard certification range.

    Calibration Test

    • Repeat this process, using the "Torque" setting. If result are in the calibration guidelines, the rheometer is calibrated properly. If not, double-check the spindle setting, calibration standard and temperature, then repeat the calibration tests.

    Tip

    • Calibration settings and parameters will vary by manufacturer. Check your owner's manual to verify calibration settings for your rheometer prior to testing. Ambient air temperature changes can alter the calibration of your rheometer.
